Shocking Christmas Insight

After experiencing one of the most amazing Christmases I have yet, I want to analyze the shock I have felt from stepping out of ignorance and being able to see the transformation of Christmas.
In this past year I have been taking World History AP and I realized in that class that Christianity borrowed heavily from the pagan Romans. The product of this, for example, can be seen in the day Christmas is held every year, the emphasis of "Mother Marry", and the use of Christmas trees. It is not by accident that Christmas so happens to fall on the same day as the winter solstice. The Romans used this day to celebrate the birthday of the "Invincible Sun" which was to them, a God. See, when the Roman Empire became "Christan" they had some struggle trying to convince their people to turn away from being pagan so they replaced their biggest holiday, the winter solstice, and elevated the birth of Christ to the most sacred holiday, so they traded the winter solstice for Christmas. The Romans had a tendency to see women as "high" up in the social class of their Gods, and to be able to raise Marry up to a position of Goddess, Christmas had to become the most sacred holiday and not Easter. Being a Christian, it is simple to understand that the most significant part of being a Christian is the fact that Jesus died on the cross, and not the fact that He was born. So with this understanding, the significance of Christianity sort of died to my heart some. Obviously Christmas is no longer about Jesus but about Greed and the elevation of Marry to a Goddess. But that is not all of the decay of Christmas. When looking at the Christmas tree, one can truly understand the spiritual decay of Christmas. The Romans during the winter solstice would used an evergreen tree and literally worship it as a God. When the winter solstice was replaced with Christmas, this worship of the Christmas Tree did not stop. Proof of this is in the song "Oh Christmas tree..." Shocking, I know. We are decorating the trees and literally worshiping the same gods the Romans did. It personally scares me to think about what God thinks of this.
The decay of Christmas can be seen also in the greed of us all. I feel like Christmas is more about what we are going to get than about family and more importantly, Jesus. It is easy to see the affects of greed when looking at the Wall Street Wacos. They are starting to feel the pain of their mistakes, and they will feel all of it we let them. Interestingly enough the pain they are feeling is exactly what many are saying they themselves are feeling. With the millions of jobs being lost right now and foreclosures continuing to increase, the greed of indivduals and also the Wall Street Wacos is sinking into all of us. It has become so easy to simply swipe our credit cards to get the presents that simply, we do not need.
